About the Webster Public Library

The town of Webster has been fortunate enough to have had a library in its community since 1929.  At that time the library was a single room in the high school building with 657 books, 365 borrowers, and a circulation of 6,246.  In 1957 the library moved to the Emil Reitz building on Main Street in the Village of Webster and in 1959 the library relocated, once again, to a new facility in a wing of the Town Hall on Ridge Road.  In 1975 a library was built at 1 Van Ingen Drive, located behind the Town Hall complex.  In May 2002 the library moved to its current location in a renovated department store in Webster Plaza, 980 Ridge Road.

The current library staff consists of 7 full time librarians, 6 part-time library assistants and over 40 part-time clerical and page employees.

The library collection has over 95,000 items which include books, magazines, audio cassettes and CDs, video cassettes, DVDs, books on cassette and CD, and CD-ROMS.  A large children’s collection in a park-like children's room is an attractive feature of the library.

Along with frequent adult and teen programs, the library offers regular computer classes in a wireless lab designed for computer training.  The library also has a children’s story hour room for the many programs offered for children.

WPL also has a large meeting room which can be divided into 2 sections. The Department of Motor Vehicles mobile office is located here on Mondays from 10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m .  When not scheduled for use by a library function, the meeting room is available for use by local non-profit groups.  Use of the meeting room must be reserved in advance.  Please call the reference desk at (585) 872-7075 for more information.
